Organizing a PhD committee

Doctoral students should contact the administrators of the Institute of Far Eastern Studies (Eszter Orbán, Veronika Pál, Miklós Sebeszta) regarding administrative matters related to the comprehensive exam, the seminar, or the doctoral defense; these administrators are responsible for organizing the exams and defenses.

After a student submits their application, the administrators will contact the program director, who will appoint the committee members and, if necessary, the external examiners. After the committee members are appointed, the administrators fill out the necessary forms, which, after being signed by the program director, are forwarded by the secretariat to Krisztina Károly, chair of the Council of the Doctoral School of Linguistics.

The institute administrators invite the committee members to participate on behalf of the program director. Once the members have accepted the invitation, the secretariat notifies the program director and the student. The student is then asked to propose three possible dates, which the administrators coordinate with the committee members.

Once the final date is set, the secretary reserves the venue for the exam or defense. In the case of a workshop discussion and a doctoral defense, the administrators also prepare the invitation, which they send to the Institute.

The student submits his or her dissertation to the secretary, which then forwards it to the opponents through official channels.
